Glencore Coal Australia, in partnership with Programmed, welcomes you to the First Nations Pathways Program. This program supports participants to develop job-readiness skills, gain experience, and expand their knowledge toward opportunities in the mining industry.
The program is held once a year and involves on-site, off-site and classroom training and is supported by Indigenous mentors, health and wellbeing coaches, and provides career guidance. Participants are employed by Programmed and earn a wage throughout the 26-week program.
Participants will learn about different job roles in the mining industry to develop career goals and will achieve a Certificate II in Surface Extraction Operations which is a nationally recognised qualification.

Achieve a Cert II Surface Extraction Operations, Standard 11 (QLD only), Civil Machinery tickets, and more.
After completing the program
You will be well equipped to apply for entry level roles in the mining industry, such as:
- Trainee Truck Operator
- Trainee Bench Hand
- Washplant Trades Assistant
- Workshop Trades Assistant
- Trainee Warehouse Assistant
- Trainee Administration Assistant
- Apprenticeship Programs

Program locations
Queensland
In Queensland, the first 12 weeks of the program is delivered in Glenden. Participants will need to plan their own transport to be able to travel to the training location in Glenden and to stay in on-site accommodation for a 7 days on / 7 days off roster duration.
In the second half of the program, participants will be placed at an operational site to complete work experience. They will be required to stay in on-site accommodation for 7 days on / 7 days off or a 9 day fortnight roster.
New South Wales
In New South Wales, the first 12 weeks of the program is delivered in Singleton. Participants will need to plan their own transport to be able to travel to the training facility located in Singleton Heights.
In the second half of the program, participants will be placed at an operational site to complete work experience.

Applications for both New South Wales and Queensland programs open in January 2026 and close on 20 February 2026.
Program dates
In New South Wales, the program commences on 27 April 2026 and finishes on 25 October 2026.

Eligibility and selection criteria
To be eligible for the program, applicants must:
Eligibility
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders who live in or have connection to the areas where Glencore Coal operates (Bowen Basin QLD and Hunter Valley NSW).
- Be unemployed or working part-time and actively seeking full-time employment.
- Minimum 18 years age.
Selection criteria
- Be able to provide their own transport to and from training locations and work sites.
- Be able to work a set roster with 12-hour shifts that may include night shift and weekends.
- Be able to meet mining industry medical requirements.
